State vs. State

What is a state vs. state?
State is a place on the map.
Or
State is mental.
State is a fixed point.
Questionable.
.
What is the state of New York City post CODIV-19.
No music, no shows, no drinks, no fun.
FiDi, no traffic on Wall Street.
What is New York City without the venues, Broadway, the hustle? The city that moves so fast
that you have to talk fast just to keep up with it.
The city where people don’t waste time asking, how are you?
Because the answer always is: I’m making it.
.
What are we making now?
Broadway is shut down. All shows are cancelled. The bars are at capacity. The restaurants are closed.
.
My mind is racing but the city…
She is in a state of silence.
.
What is the state of humanity without connection?
What is a city with thousands of people all locked behind doors?
It feels like a prison.
There is no warden here, only fear.
The last show I saw at Music Hall of Williamsburg to the day all the bars closed on Knickerbocker in Brooklyn.
What is the state of a virus without a host?
With nothing to infect, how much time will it take to eliminate?
Tick. Tok.
The statement of time, doesn’t stop.
The days grow longer.
Sunshine, birds chirping.
Empty shelves and no toilet paper.
How do you prepare for eminent doom on such a perfect day?
.
How long will this quarantine remain?
A statement has yet to be made.
.
Why do we choose to remain connected?
Now we are all infected.
Injecting all the pain, lungs no longer breathing, wheezing.
.
Everything is in bloom and there is so much room to wander now that we are all doomed.
Is this the big boom?
Bang.
.
State of shock.
Sorry we can’t hang.
The city is infected.
We stay in.
It’s a statement. We are New Yorkers, we can take it.
Quarantine me baby.
.
What is the point?
Can’t use my fingers. (Don’t touch your face)
No state of reason.
.
State vs. state.
We all have a window now, looking out to a new perspective.
